City of Troy: Fact Sheet

Johnson Niles, the first settler, originally named the village Hastings in 1822. Later it was renamed Troy Corners, then finally Troy because many of the early settlers had come from Troy, New York.
The city was incorporated in 1815 and expanded over the years until today's boundaries were established in 1926.
