| Sterling Township was incorporated as a city in 1968 to form Sterling Heights. The area was first settled by farmers in the 1830's. The farm community prospered and was converted to residential and business in the post World War II boom. Sterling Heights was once know as the Rhubarb capital of the world with a production of 5 million pounds in 1961 (65% of the world's crop in Utica and Sterling Heights). |
