In 1914, the Christian Science Society obtained a Charter
and became recognized as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ,
Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, under the name of First Church of Christ,
Scientist, Ypsilanti.
In 1915, the church began holding its meeting in the
Ladies Literary Club House, corner of Washington and Emmet Streets, while still
maintaining a Reading Room on Congress Street. Later the Reading Room was moved
to the second floor of the Hewitt Block, on the northeast corner of West Michigan
Avenue and Washington Streets. Later the Reading Room was once more moved to the
second floor of the Unity Building at the corner of Pearl and Washington Streets.
In 1928, work was begun on the construction of a church edifice on the
lot at 123 N. Adams Street. The first meeting was held on October 28, 1928. By
1937, the Church was free from debt, and the edifice was dedicated on May 23 of
1937. The church at 123 N. Adams has been the home of the First Church of Christ,
Scientist, Ypsilanti for over 65 years. It has served their congregation well
and the congregation is now looking for another church to prosper in the facility.
