The beginnings of the Galilean Baptist Church reach
back to times of Truman Administration (that's right 1952). The
origin of the church is a Veterans Hall on Seven Mile Road near
Grand River. This humble start would then grow with the election
of Pastor Noe in 1954. Soon, the church began to be too big for
the hall and the search was on for land on the eastern side of Livonia.
The fall of 1954 brought the first purchase of land and the construction
of a church (which is now the fellowship hall/school wing). The
inaugural service for the new church was Sunday, January 27, 1957.
The church grew with the development of Livonia to such an extent
that by 1967 the church was ready for the addition of a new auditorium
with the conversion of the existing auditorium into a school wing.
The new auditorium had a seating capacity of 714 (since scaled back
to 650) and offers the future addition of a balcony.
In 1968, the church added the parsonage facing Seven Mile. Along
the way the vacant parcel of land that fronts Seven Mile was acquired
thus completing the complex of 7.4 (net) acres.
The site has served the Galilean Baptist Church extremely well over
the years. The school has graduated well-educated students with
a mindset toward community service. The church has saved lost souls
and built men, women and families along the way. It is with this
legacy that the Galilean Baptist Church is looking to right size
its facility and relocate to a site more centrally located to its
congregation.
The fire in February of 2004 changed the direction of the property.
We believe it offers a wonderful opportunity for redevelopment in
Livonia.
