In
1921 Elder C.C. Halmon came and ran a tent meeting on Cherrylawn near Eight Mile
Road. The lord wonderfully blessed this meeting and Rev. John N. Evans was saved.
Later Sister Anna Smith and Rev. John Evans met on the corner of Wisconsin Ave.
and Chippewa to discuss the matter of finding a permanent home. A small lot near
Cherrylawn and Norfolk was purchased for a future church.
The first church
was 18 ft. by 24 ft. and the lot is now part of Higginbotham School. The next
building was 24 ft. by 36 ft. This building was moved in 1930 to the current site
at Wisconsin & Chippewa. The parsonage was added to the church holdings in
1945.
The current church is the product of a major renovation planned in
1957 and completed in 1960. In 2000, the Bryden Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue Church
of God merged to become the Lighthouse Community Church of God. This merger has
brought forth the growth that now necessitates a relocation to a larger facility.
We truly wish that our blessings at this location will all upon the new owners
of this beautiful church.
