Redford Township: Fact Sheet | | The
Redford area was first settled by Israel Bell in 1818. Named because of its location
at the place where the Indians and early settlers cold cross the "rouge"
or "red" river. The Rouge River got its name because of its reddish
water and its red clay banks, which are remnants of a prehistoric lake whose bottom
was red clay. Today, Redford is a fully developed ring suburb of Detroit. |
